Sharon Switzer's artistic practice has always centred on an exploration of digital media. She is not invested in exploring new technologies for their own sake, but instead find ways that she can personalize commercial applications, ‘misusing’ them for my own purposes.
Switzer is currently creating semi-generative videos and still images in collaboration with her computer. Each moment in the work is dependent on making decisions about many different interrelated options for creating and transforming individual particles, each of which has an effect on how the algorithms function. This method is slow and painstaking, but also surprising and often magical.
