Overview

Peter Campbell paints with patterns to represent places and psychological  states. The kinetic compositions appear as luminous, organic and geometric  surfaces. Working intuitively, he deploys a wide lexicon of pattern motifs to  explore the intersection of built and natural forms. His work often evokes  imagery inspired by daily observations, aerial photographs and botanical  illustrations. By mimicking the processes of growth in nature, as Paul Klee  famously advised, Campbell demonstrates the expansion of forms through the  multiplication of small units. Informed by numerous sources including Op art,  shibori textiles, the Book of Kells, Divine Geometry and microscopic images, the  artist explores connections between experience and feeling, the visible and the  invisible.

Campbell holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. He currently  lives and works in Montréal.
