Overview

For Montréal-based artist Rosi Maria Di  Meglio, abstraction is a means of revisiting the past and hypothesizing the future. Di Meglio’s colourful compositions reflect the artist’s experiences as an educator, mother, and first-generation Italian in Canada. The cloudy, organic forms that possess the her work are steeped in memories that recall the artist’s understanding of life through visual language. Her practice invites the viewer to question their sense of reality through her imaginative manipulation of line and color.

Remembrances from Jerusalem  is inspired by the artist’s residency in the historic city, where she collected found objects, wrote poems, sketched from life, and took over two thousand photographs. She internalized the energy and beauty of the city and its culture, which moved her to create expressive, evocative paintings.

The artist received her BFA in Visual Arts from Concordia University in 2021. Di Meglio participated in the Convergence Project-Artists and Neuroscientists collaborating in a year-long art-science project (Montreal, QC) in 2018. Her print series “Pathways” was recently exhibited as part of the Printmaking at the Edge exhibition at Dover Art Center (Dover, NH) and her Jerusalem series was published in Rencontre, no. 35, by editor in-chief Mme. Judith Tetreault. Di Meglio recently participated in the 60th Toronto Outdoor Art Fair in Toronto, Ontario.
