Biography

Ramón Serrano works in a variety of media, including painting, photography, collage, sculpture, and installation. He intricately connects these media and blends the histories of architecture, art, and politics with public associations and personal memories.

The work of Ramón Serrano is dramatic and lyrical. His practice spans paintings of Hotel Libre in Havana, the interior of a Cuban home, collages from Plaza de la Revolución, and water imagery referencing the place he left, his former home, the island of Cuba.

Serrano graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte de Habana in 1995 where he became the Dean of the Graduate Department in the Faculty of Visual Arts. His works have been exhibited widely in Canada, Mexico, Spain and Germany. Serrano’s work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, and Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain.
